Russian may not be the first language you think of in a business sense; it is however, the most widely spoken language in Europe. 275 million people speak Russian, of which 110 million people are native speakers. Russian is used as a second language from Eastern Europe to Central Asia.
If you are going to do business with Russia, you may have noticed that Russians appear to be reserved and standoffish. Getting to know your Russian counterpart could be a challenge, especially if you are a new business partner. They tend to be slightly cautious at first.
It is therefore very important to gain their trust, but once you have gained this trust, many doors will be opened to you.
Most Russians speak English poorly or not at all. That is why it is so important to speak Russian when you are doing business in Russia.
