German

Germans are very fond and proud of their language. In contrast to a few decades ago, the German business community is using English more than ever before. However, as a Dutchman, you can really make a positive impression if you know German. Tip! Try translating your first written email into German before sending it. Germans will greatly appreciate this.

Language, Culture and doing Business

As opposed to the Dutch, Germans tend to be more results driven. Generally speaking, Dutch business culture is more informal. For instance, in the Netherlands one often sees the following closing statement on business proposals: “for this non binding proposal…” However, Germans have their reservations on this particular statement. What do you mean by non binding? Isn’t the very purpose of a proposal to, close the deal?

Being Proficient in German is essential in order to do business and avoid missing out on business opportunities with our largest trading partner. Therefore, being able to speak and write in German, is a must.
